October Newsletter 2023

October started with a potential record fishing catch by Mark at Kielder reservoir. Unfortunately, it was the smallest trout ever caught since records began, not the biggest. Unlucky Mark

The sad news of the sycamore tree being chopped down in Northumberland was greeted with alternative joy and relief as Stu found out that Loch had an alibi that night and fortunately wasn’t the 16yr old arrested.

October also brought some well-earned promotions. Congratulations to Phil & Shaun who were promoted to purple belt, Ash, Chris, Dan & Kell who all received blue and to James, who received grey and white. Well done to you all.

The seminar at Sunderland was very well represented from all 4 clubs and had a huge turn-out. Leonardo Neves took the class, showing some techniques that were no doubt repeated and practised at all the Dungeons individual club classes. Photos of the day are available to view on the gallery pages of the club website, check them out if you haven’t already.

October was also a month with another competition, this time at Newcastle and more great results for team Dungeon Consett. Congratulations to all competitors and thank you to all who were able to attend as supporters.

Dylan & Ethan won gold, Alfie & Jude won silver, Harry, Olivia & Reece all fought very well but unfortunately no medals, on this occasion. Dan won double gold, in gi and no gi and congratulations to Santa & Steven on their respective first fights.

October also saw David have his first ever tattoo, and no it wasn’t done by Stevie Wonder as everyone keeps asking. While waiting his turn, he did ask who the guide dog in the corner belonged to, but he never did get an answer. There is much debate on what the tattoo actually is, the 3 current guesses are a caterpillar inside a lettuce, a skull with an eye patch inside a flower & a one-eyed old man with no teeth under a leaf shaped umbrella.  Whatever it is & as long as he likes it, that’s the main thing 😊

As Halloween looms, Gary returned from Turkey with a scary new haircut, or maybe just scary new hair. Obviously, this new look was done with no consideration to the Dungeon team, who he already drips more than enough sweat on to, during his rolls.

Did no one mention that to you Gary? Thanks in advance from your ex-training partners.

Please note that no-one was harmed in the writing of this newsletter, well at least not yet!

September Newsletter 2023

Another tournament, this time at Leeds on 23rd Sept and more great results for team Dungeon. Congratulations and well done to Connor (Double Gold), Phillip (Gold), Reece (Gold), Chris (Gold), Bill (Silver) and Alex. Team Dungeon were 12th out of 98 clubs and had only 6 competing. Check out the team pics on the Upcoming events page by clicking here for that competition and the one at Maiden Castle on 20th August. The next tournament is at Gateshead stadium on 22nd October. We have quite a few already registered, so come along and support your training partners and club or register soon if you want to compete, registrations continue until 16th October.

There are a few team mates not able to train at the minute due to injuries and illness, the latest being Mark Carney who’s now out of hospital and recovering well, which is great news, so a big shout out for him, fingers crossed for a quick recovery. His legendary teaching of the Berimbolo will be missed in the adult class, something he loves to demonstrate as the last technique of each session.

There is also no truth in the rumour that Chris had to fight a girl in his category yesterday at Leeds. Amber was very nice about it all and sends her, sorry, his love and telephone number.

It was James’ birthday yesterday, something he kept quiet about but the news is out, so maybe shark tank looms next session?

If anyone would like a message or anything passed on, any birthday wishes, announcements or any stories, funny or serious, please contact Mark or any of the instructors at any session

28th Feb 2023

We are starting a whatsapp group to keep parents informed on whats going on at the Dungeon. If you would like to be added, please whatsapp Mark on 07735626884 with both your and your childs name.

There is a local competition, Cleveland coastal, coming up on 22nd April at Redcar Leisure centre. Hopefully, we can take a big squad and win the team cup again. Its a great day out with the team, even if you’re not competing.

Also, big congratulations to James, Alfie and Jacob, together with the people from Sunderland and Thornaby gyms, who all competed at Empire grappling. They all tried their best and have made the Dungeon very proud
